FAQ

Why is it called Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith established the first film industry in California, 1887. It was named for Los Angeles, which was at the time called "Hollywood."

Because it was so exciting to visit, the name stuck. People would come from all over just to see what was happening there.

Hollywood is an important part of culture today. We have movies and television shows, music videos, commercials and so on. They are all called Hollywood.

How much does Hollywood earn in a single year?

A movie takes around $100 million to create. The average movie costs around $100 million to make. If you made ten movies per month for a ten year, you'd have enough cash to buy a small country.

You could own an island with an airfield, power plant and bank.

If that doesn't sound like fun, then you must be insane.

Is Hollywood more important than Bollywood?

The biggest challenge for any film producer is how to make sure his movie gets noticed by audiences.

Problem is that many movies are competing for people's money and time. If you don't stand out, your chances of being seen are slim.

But what makes a movie successful? What makes an actor or director famous? Or a director? Talent is not enough. It also requires luck. The best actors may be the best, but they will not succeed if they are writing bad scripts.

Two main types exist when it comes down to film: large-budget blockbusters or small independent productions. Production and distribution of blockbuster movies costs hundreds of millions. They are typically made by huge studios who want to ensure that their movies reach a wide audience. But big-budget films appeal more to older audiences.

Independent films are smaller-scale productions that may have to be financed individually or by groups of investors. These films tend to target niche markets and are tailored to specific tastes. These films are typically less expensive to produce and sell. However, this doesn't mean that they're always cheaper to watch. Many indie films can be difficult to find.

We need both types? What are the best movies for independent cinema? Hollywood is bigger than Bollywood, according to me. Hollywood produces more movies than India every year.

What made Hollywood famous?

The answer was straightforward. It was because they were willing and able to take risks. They had the fortitude to make films that would remain in people's minds for years.

They also had the courage and vision to try new ideas.

What is the difference between an independent film and a film in another language?

A single filmmaker usually makes an independent film. He or she makes all the decisions.

On the other hand, a foreign language film is typically produced by a larger production team.

They often hire actors, writers, and directors from other countries.

Professional translators are also available to ensure that the dialogue sounds natural.

How much does it set you back to distribute a feature length film?

A typical distribution deal will cost between $100,000-$150,000.

Theaters typically cost around $10,000.

The average screen cost is about $5,000

The distribution fee is approximately $500,000. If you have 100 screens then that would mean your cost to distribute the screen(s) is around $500,000.

Distribution fees for ten screens would amount to $50,000

How To

How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due will vary depending on how long ago you were nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Family members may nominate you to be a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened with the stars that were stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
