FAQ

What's the difference between a manufacturer and a distributor?

Produced by a producer, the movie is produced. A distributor distributes the movie. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors buy movies from producers. They then make them available for sale to theaters as well cable channels and streaming services.

Distributors must negotiate with theater owners where their movies will be shown. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.

What is the cost of distributing a feature-length film?

A typical distribution deal costs between $100,000-$150,000.

Theaters cost an average of $10,000.

Screens cost on average around $5,000

The distribution fee is approximately $500,000. If you have 100 screens then that would mean your cost to distribute the screen(s) is around $500,000.

If you have ten screens, your distribution fees would be $50,000.

Why is Hollywood calling this Hollywood?

The first film industry was founded in California in 1887 by D.W. Griffith. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.

Because it was such a fascinating place, people kept coming back for more. People would come from all over just to see what was happening there.

Today, Hollywood is still very much part of our culture. There are movies, TV shows, music videos and commercials. And we call them all "Hollywood."

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Many indie filmmakers believe that distributors will take their films.

Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.

However, this is seldom the case. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.

They might delay a film’s release date until after the awards show has finished.

They delay the release of a low-budget movie until after the summer blockbuster seasons has started.

Distributors are also trying to keep films off the streets until audiences have already spent hundreds upon thousands of dollars on tickets or popcorn.

They don't wish to lose those profits.

How To

How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old must one be to get a HWOF star

One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Your family members can nominate you for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce can place a memorial marker next to the star, if there aren't any living relatives.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened to all the stars stolen? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250 and 300 lbs. This makes it approximately 4 tons!
