FAQ
Why don’t more filmmakers use crowdfunding platforms like Indiegogo, Kickstarter, and others?
Crowdfunding sites are great because they allow you to reach out directly to potential investors.
But most filmmakers don't think they're qualified to ask for money. They believe they need another person to verify their claims.
Since they haven’t proved themselves yet, they don’t think anyone should make an investment in them.
Instead, they spend months focusing on their project and hoping that someone will notice.
Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.
They end up with only a few donations, instead of thousands of dollars.
Is Hollywood more important than Bollywood?
Producing a movie that is well-received by the public is the biggest challenge for film producers.
There are so many movies out there competing for your time and money. If you don't stand out, your chances of being seen are slim.
But what is the secret to making a movie successful. What makes an actor or director famous? Or a director? It's not just talent - it's also luck. The best actors may be the best, but they will not succeed if they are writing bad scripts.
When it comes to movies, there are two main types. There are big-budget blockbusters as well as small independent productions. Production and distribution of blockbuster movies costs hundreds of millions. These blockbuster movies are usually produced by big studios who want their movies to reach as broad an audience as possible. But these big-budget films tend to appeal mainly to older audiences.
Independent films can be smaller productions funded by individuals or groups. These films usually target specific markets and appeal to specific tastes. These films are usually easier to market and produce. They aren't always more affordable to watch, however. In fact, most indie films are very hard to find.
So, the question is, do we need both kinds of films? Do we need big blockbuster movies and small independent ones? Well, I think that Hollywood is actually bigger than Bollywood. Hollywood makes almost twice the number of movies each year than India.
How much does it cost for a feature movie to be distributed?
A distribution deal typically costs between $100,000 and $150,000.
The average cost per theater is around $10,000.
The average screen cost is about $5,000
The distribution fee is approximately $500,000. If you have 100 screens then that would mean your cost to distribute the screen(s) is around $500,000.
If you have ten screens, your distribution fees would be $50,000.
Why is it called Hollywood?
D.W. Griffith was the one who founded California's first film industry. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.
It was an exciting place to visit and the name stuck. People came from all parts of the country to see what was going on there.
Hollywood is still a part of our culture today. We have movies, television shows, music videos, commercials, etc. We call them all "Hollywood."
How many theaters will I need to return my investment?
It depends on how long you plan to run your theatrical release.
You will only need one theater to show your film if you plan to run it for less that two weeks.
If your film will run for more that two weeks, at least two theatres are necessary.

How To
How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.
The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce receives half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.
After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. If you were nominated for the first time in 1990, you would owe $15,000.
You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.
How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?
To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
Family members may nominate you to be a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.
Why not just have stars on every street?
The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is meant as a memorial to all who contributed to the history of film.
What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
