How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star
In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.
If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision.
